During the “International Youth Year”, the Youth Wing had organised 12 nationwide “Bharat Unity Padyatras” (walks) from different parts of the country, the longest being from Kanyakumari to Delhi (3300 Kms). The volunteers passed through deserts, forests, mountain ranges even during heavy rains and storms.
It was launched by the Late Gyani Zail Singh, President of India. He expressed his hope to the Padyatris for their success of liberating the masses from blind faiths, drug addictions, superstitions, bad habits etc.
During the programmes thousands of people took the pledge to give up smoking, alcohol and drugs.
The 12 padyatras finally converged in Delhi on October 24th, 1985 for the grand finale.
