Today’s world – Full of Choices or Distraction

How many times do you feel tired because there are just too many things to do?

Do you know what it feels like to sit in silence?

Imagine that it is dawn and you are sitting on a beach. You are observing the sun rise as you are enjoying the chirping of birds. The waves are playing touch and go with you. The cool breeze is touching you gently and there you are sitting at the cusp of light and darkness, happy for those moments to continue till eternity.

Today there are innumerable choices we have to keep ourselves engaged and entertained and yet we feel tired and busy in our minds.

Have you ever wondered why?

The answer is quite intuitive. Distractions and choices are the 2 sides of the same coin. So, if we can be more discrete in making our choices, we will reduce our distractions. Therefore, we come to another important question.

How do we reduce our distractions?

Starting early: Just like it is easy to reach a destination when there is less traffic similarly it is easy to do our work when there is less traffic of thoughts and less hustle bustle around. Getting up early in morning is a good way to start our day as we can get time to visualize our day, exercise, indulge in some hobby before we attend to work, classes or household chores. All Rajayogis start their day at 4AM with the earliy hours of nectar (Amritvela), they also listen to Godly Versions (Murli) – insightful and energizing thoughts from the Supreme Being.

Following a routine: Our mind gets conditioned to do things which it does regularly. By creating a schedule for ourselves and living by it we can create a pattern in our lives which when established would easily be followed by our mind. The initial few days of doing this needs perseverance but after that we are sorted. All Rajyogis organize their life to spend some time on their worldly duties, spiritual endeavors and sleeping.

Focusing on objective: There is a saying that time is more valuable than money. By focusing on what is the end objective of doing something, we can save a lot of time. This also means that we can find time to do things that we want to. All Rajyogis dedicate their time in understanding and applying the knowledge from Murlis so that they can create a beautiful world by upskilling themselves in the skills of life. They therefore avoid spending too much time in worldly affairs.

Assigning a specific time for social networking / web surfing: Technology has played a key role in connecting people with each other during pandemic. But just like any other tool, we need to understand how to use it well.  Constant notifications distract our mind as we let it open to variety of thoughts.

Self-Reflection: To err is human, to accept and learn are the signs of humanity. We should spend some time at the end of each day focusing on what went well and what we could do better. This would encourage us to do better each day and stay away from laziness. All Rajyogis maintain a chart of how their day was. By keeping an eye on their objective and doing a reality check each day they remain focused on their efforts.

The answers are empowering but what can really break our shackles is our determination to pursue them. Every journey starts by taking first few steps. Sleeping early and getting up early can be a good start point so that we can enjoy the chirping of birds and explore the silence inside.
